"Hallelujah" is a song written and originally performed by the Canadian singer song writer Leonard Cohen. It has been covered by several other singers (e.g., Sheryl Crowe, Bob Dylan) and appeared on the sound tracks of popular movies like the cartoon Shrek (performed by John Cale in the movie and by Rufus Wainwright on the soundtrack album). The winner of the 2008 X factor (British version of American Idol) Alexandra Burke performed "Hallelujah" in her finale.

The song's first set of lyrics is

Now I've heard there was a secret chord

That David played, and it pleased the Lord

But you don't really care for music, do you?

It goes like this

The fourth, the fifth

The minor fall, the major lift

The baffled king composing Hallelujah
