Allentown is a conservative city in eastern Pennsylvania. After Philadelphia and Pittsburgh it is the third largest city in the state with a population of over 106,000. It is twinned with Bethlehem and Easton in the Lehigh Valley to have a population of 740,000.
These cities were a center of the Industrial Revolution in the United States with major steel mills and silk mills. Now the city has many service industries and even acts as a bedroom community for the nearby centers of New York City and Philadelphia.
