Ambrosius Aurelianus, or Aurelius Ambrosius, or (in Welsh) Emrys Wledig, was a legendary king of England who reigned before Uther Pendragon, his brother. He was remembered as a great warrior, who fought against the various invaders of England and defeated them. It is highly probable that Ambrosius was based on a real historical person, as he is mentioned by the monk Gildas who was writing just a few years later. Ambrosius's predecessor as king was Vortigern, who he defeated in battle.[1]
