American History Homework 10

Leonard G.

1.) I believe that if I focused more on what each President’s goals and accomplishments were and what each political party’s goals and accomplishments were, I would have done better on the midterm exam.

Good analysis.

2.) My favorite question on the test that I missed was question 13 which asks, “Who was a leading abolitionist in the early 1840s?” I thought it was funny that instead of picking the obvious correct answer, (b) John Quincy Adams, I picked (d) John Calhoun, a leading defender of slavery!

Good insight ... and good sense of humor!

3.) A comment that I would like to make on the aspects of the Scopes trial was that the Scopes Trial was like a theater production, where people from all over came to watch this historic trial. I also found it funny that after the commotion was over the whole trial, the case was moot because Scopes no longer lived in the state!

Terrific.

4.) I believe that the United States should not have entered World War I because there was not a good enough reason to do so. The sinking of a British ship that happened to have Americans was horrible, but not a good enough reason to lose hundreds of more lives in war!

Well argued.

5.) Teddy Roosevelt is one of my favorite presidents because he shares many of my same views. I believe that his ending of the Russo-Japanese war, the signing of the Hay-Bunau-Varilla Treaty of 1903, and even his breaking up of the monopolies with the “Square Deal” are amazing accomplishments that any President can look back upon and follow in his footsteps.

Good.

6.) The 18th amendment banned all alcoholic beverages in the United States; also know as the prohibition. I believe this amendment had good intentions but bad outcomes. The prohibition causes an increase in crime. Alcohol was still drunk in “speak-easies” and sold by “moon shiners.” The 18th amendment had the opposite effect than the one intended.

That is the view of many (particularly in the media) about this, but there are still "dry" counties to this day.

7.) The political cartoon shows Theodore Roosevelt breaking up the conflict between the Japanese and the Russians and ending the Russo-Japanese War. It puts Theodore Roosevelt in a good light because he is depicted as an angel.

Excellent. Will use as a model!
Perfect! 70/70. Congratulations.
