The American Legion not-for-profit community-service organization, that was chartered by the U.S. Congress in 1919 as a patriotic, war-time veterans organization, devoted to mutual helpfulness.
It presently has almost 3 million former servicemen and -women amongst its members, with some 15,000 posts located worldwide.
