American Whig-Cliosophic Society

The American Whig-Cliosophic Society is a literary and debate club at Princeton University. It is the oldest of its kind in the United States. It was formed by a merger of the American Whig Society and the Cliosophic society.
Dating back to 1765, the founders of the society include Oliver Ellsworth,[1] William Paterson,[2] James Madison,[2] Luther Martin,[3] and Aaron Burr.[4]
Controversy
In 1956, the Society invited Alger Hiss to speak.[5]
