Antonio Mediz Bolio

Antonio Mediz Bolio (13 Oct. 1884, Mérida, Yucatán, México - 15 Sep. 1957, Mexico City) Mexican writer poet, cineast and journalist. He became one of the most important exponents of Mayan culture.

Mediz is best known by his book "The Land of the Pheasant and the Deer", a book of Mayan folk tales published in 1922 in Spanish, and illustrated by Diego Rivera.

The first complete translation of "El Chilam Balam de Chumayel" was published in 1930 by Médiz Bolio in Costa Rica, in Spanish. The Books of Chilam Balam are one of the most important sections of indigenous American literature.
