Aphraates was a 4th-century Church Father. His Homilies, written between 337 and 345, emphasized the value of ascetic life. He taught that God created the universe, gave the law to Moses, and the Jesus is the Son of God and that at baptism a believer receives the Holy Spirit. He was part of the Syrian Church.
