Apocalyptica is a cello metal band from Finland. They formed in 1993 when four classically trained cellists attending the Sibelius Academy of Music decided to form an ensemble dedicated to covering Metallica songs. After getting signed to Zen Garden Records after a performance, Apocalyptica began to write original music of their own on top of their covers of classic rock music. Their discography maps a gradual shift from acoustic cello cover music to more fully formed metal songs featuring cellos. As of 2005, they have a full time drummer as the three remaining cellists from the original quartet. Since they have no vocalist, Apocalyptica often invites vocalists from other popular bands to sing on their more radio-friendly tunes. [1]
