Avulsion

An avulsion is a sudden change in the course of a stream that serves as the boundary between two different land parcels, causing a loss in ownership of one parcel in favor of a gain in ownership of the other parcel. When an avulsion is caused by accretion, the law recognizes the change in ownership rights.
