Baker v. McCollan

In Baker v. McCollan, 443 U.S. 137, 142 (1979), the U.S. Supreme Court held in dictum that a violation of state law cannot establish a basis for a Section 1983 claim.
Justice William Rehnquist wrote the opinion for the 6-3 Court, with the liberal Justices dissenting.
