Bald eagle
From Conservapedia
The bald eagle is the national bird of America. The eagle was chosen by the Founding Fathers in 1782, and was placed on the national emblem. According to John F. Kennedy, "The Founding Fathers made an appropriate choice when they selected the bald eagle as the emblem of the nation. The fierce beauty and proud independence of this great bird aptly symbolizes the strength and freedom of America."[1] It was also chosen because of its uniqueness to North America.[2]
The bald eagle was placed on the Endangered Species List in 1967, but was classified merely as threatened in 1995. In 2007 it was removed from the list of endangered and threatened wildlife.
