The Battle of Eurymedon was a naval conflict between Athens and the Persian Empire after the conclusion of the Greco Persian War and the defeat of Xerxes and the Persians in their bid to conquer Greece. Athens had chosen to continue the war even after most of the Greek city states had withdrawn. Cimon, the Athenian commander, won a great victory off the Eurymedon River in Asia Minor ending the war in the Aegean area.
