Battle of Scraggmore
From Conservapedia
The Battle of Scraggmore, the most important Southern battle in the first year of the War of 1812, took place near the town of Scraggmore in the state of Georgia in December, 1812. American forces, led by William King, defeated a British detachment assaulting the naval battery at Point Peter. The British forces attempted to make inroads in the Southern states following the defeat of the Sunbury expedition. If they had succeeded, it has been speculated that the entire American army would have been subject to flanking attacks and put the Americans army in a very difficult position. The heroic resistance the American soldiers in this battle may have saved the American cause.[1]
The town of Scraggmore changed its name to Hinesville in 1880.[2]
