The Battle of Spion Kop (January 24, 1900) was the first major conflict in the first Boer War.

The battle pitted the experienced Boer General Botha against the relatively inexperienced British General Sir Redvers Buller in the Northern Tranvaal province of South Africa.

Despite being outnumbered, the Boer Army was able to temporarily defeat the larger British army due to their superior strategy and familiarity with the territory.
