The Battle of Thymbra was part of a larger campaign fought from 547 to 546 B.C. wherein the Egyptian pharaoh Ahmose II and Croesus of Lydia formed an alliance against the Persians under Cyrus the Great. The Lydians were routed while the Egyptians stood firm. Cyrus made separate terms with the Lydians and the Egyptians. The Egyptians were allowed to return home with honor while Lydia soon fell to the Persians.
