Bella Abzug

Bella Abzug (1920-1998) was a leading feminist and politician.
She was born Bella Savitzky in New York City to a Jewish family. After earning a law degree at Columbia University, she practiced law in New York City, specializing in labor law. She was elected in 1970 to the House of Representatives and served until January 3, 1977.
Abzug was an early supporter of gay rights and legalized abortion. She died in 1998.
