Breath of Fire II
From Conservapedia
Breath of Fire II (ESRB rating: E) is a roleplaying game created by Capcom for the Nintendo Super Famicom (Super Nintendo) in 1994. It was ported to English and released in the United States in 1995, and released in Europe in 1996. The game generated controversy, as many people believed it was anti-Christian, because the main enemy in the game was the god St. Eva, while the hero, Ryu believed in the Dragon God. The game itself was not overly violent or sexually explicit.
Criticism of Christianity
Some Christian groups, Roman Catholics in particular, were concerned about at this game because of the similarities between the evil religion of St. Eva in the game and the Roman Catholic Church. The music played while in the church sounds like Catholic hymns. The heroes in the game worshiped the Dragon God which could equate to the Dragon from the Revelation. In the game, the head leaders of the Church were located on an isolated island and were demons. Despite the evil of the church itself, many of the followers of St. Eva were good people and one devoted follower, Ray, assists the player at various points of the game. When the character reveals to him that St. Eva is a demon, he attacks the character believing him to be evil but after he is defeated, he realizes his mistake and asks for forgiveness before dying.
