Classics or Classical Studies is the study consisting of the analysis of the languages (Greek, Latin), culture, history and thought of the ancient civilisations of the Graeco-Roman world, being that of ancient Greece and Rome. Someone who studies Classics is known as a Classicist, and a Classicist may study subjects of antiquity ranging from texts like Homer's Iliad to the everyday lifestyle of the people who lived in the societies that composed these great works. Classics encompasses the study of all aspects of the ancient world, from the history of slavery, poetry, art, ethnicity, etc., and the overlapping contexts of these many fields.
