Do we really need all these articles?

I mean, it is really rather a lot and many seem rather silly and surplus to our needs. For example, instead of having "atheism in the 1960s" and "Atheism in the 1970s" we could just have "A history (or chronology) of atheism". Thoughts? MaxFletcher 23:03, 19 July 2011 (EDT)

The 60s and 70s were radically different times, and much can be said about both. While the 60s were an era of "sex, drugs, rock n roll", by the end of the 70s many people were burnt out and a religious revival took root. These are hugely expansive ideas. Rob Smith 23:16, 19 July 2011 (EDT)
But expansive where atheism is concerned? And by religious revival I am sure you mean Christian revival. Like the Beatles, many non-mainstream religious beliefs were practiced in the 1960's, many rock bands even indulged in satanism, but that doesn't mean people were atheists. MaxFletcher 23:22, 19 July 2011 (EDT)
Madelyn Murray O'Hair was active during 60s and 70s and founded the American Atheists. Conservative 23:25, 19 July 2011 (EDT)
So that would come under a history of atheism as opposed to separate entries. MaxFletcher 23:33, 19 July 2011 (EDT)
After the 1962 banning of school prayer, it all literally went to hell. And you could play up the Cold War angle as well, the spread of international godless communism (which never receded). But by the 70s a revival took root; this was the beginning of religious broadcasters taking to television. By 79 & 80, the English speaking world had it with godless leftist communism and the great society. Thatcherism and Reaganism led to global recovery (i.e. God's blessing after a long period of plague and national decline, led by godless leftists imposing their morality on the the rest of us). Just a few thoughts. Rob Smith 23:36, 19 July 2011 (EDT)
Either way some of these still look surplus to each other, my example aside. MaxFletcher 23:46, 19 July 2011 (EDT)
So it's a structural question. A larger article could be started, and when it grows to excess, subsections spun out. No bigee. Rob Smith 12:34, 20 July 2011 (EDT)
What I am sort of getting at here is if you look at the article atheism and obesity you'll see it is in fact a compendium of many other articles. There are so many articles containing much of the exact same text and links. It just seems like so little is spread so far and maybe we could pare it down to more concise and specific articles. Shockofgod and other volunteers will hammer atheism in Texas and across the nation. These articles will be icing on the cake

Shockofgod and other creationist volunteers will help hammer atheism/evolution in Texas and across the nation through the Question evolution! campaign. These articles will be icing on the cake. User:Anupam said he is going to participate in the project. Conservative 06:19, 20 July 2011 (EDT)

New contributions

Conservative, I am interested in contributing another article or two in the series. I am not sure if you remember, but I contributed Teenage atheism a while back. I just want to ask that you appprove entries and would appreciate it if you could upload an image or two as I get time to work on these articles. Many thanks!--James Wilson 08:08, 2 October 2011 (EDT)
