A danish is a sweet pastry that is popular in coffeeshops such as Starbucks throughout the world. The danish consists of a thin buttered dough which is folded into many layers. Most danishes include flour, yeast, milk, eggs, and they may also have nuts, especially almonds.

In spite of the name, the Danish was not in fact created in Denmark, where the equivalent pastry is known as a Vienna pastry.

Danish is also the name of the language spoken in Denmark, that is very like Norwegian. It is often said that Danish is not a language but a throat inflection.[1]
