De-escalation zones in Syria are areas where rebels and government forces should halt hostilities, including air strikes, in mainly opposition-held areas of the country. Russia, Turkey and Iran had planned to act as guarantors. In early July 2017, Secretary Tillerson said an agreement was made between the United States, Russia and Jordan, for an important area in southwest Syria that affects Jordan’s security. [1]
