Debate:Did Jesus come to die?

The traditional Christian view is that Jesus came to die, per Isaiah 53. It was necessary for him to provide a sacrifice to atone for our sins. Salvation would have been impossible for fallen man otherwise.

In the view of the Unification Church it was not necessary for Jesus to die in order to achieve salvation for mankind. Jesus had the authority on earth to forgive sins.[1] If enough of the Israelites had accepted him as the Messiah then the Kingdom of Heaven could have been made during his lifetime.

  1. But that ye may know that the Son of man hath power on earth to forgive sins, (then saith he to the sick of the palsy,) Arise, take up thy bed, and go unto thine house. (Matthew 9:6 KJV) See also Mark 2:10
