Democratic-Republican Party
From Conservapedia
The Democratic-Republican Party was the second American political party, and the second in world history. Formed out of the remenants of the "Antifederalists" who opposed the United States Constitution but favored the Bill of Rights, they opposed strong central government. Notable Democratic-Republicans included Thomas Jefferson and James Madison. They called themselves "Republicans and the party was usually called the "Republican Party." Historians later came to use the name "Democratic Republican party." Members were also called Jeffersonian Republicans. Modern Democrats often claim this party, but there was a hiatus between its collapse in the early 1820s and the emergence of the modern Democratic party in the 1830s. Modern Republican party named itself after this party.
