The Democratic Party of Japan (Minshu-to) is the current ruling party of Japan, having won in 2009 as a result of dissatisfaction with the center-right LDP and its then-Prime Minister, Taro Aso. It is a center-left party, but advocates a free-market enterprise, in contrast to the Socialist Party of Japan, Japan's other left-wing party. The current head is Yukio Hatoyama, who is now the current Prime Minister.
