Dumb down

To dumb down is to deprive education or communications of meaningful content, resulting in students or an audience who are less informed, knowledgeable or capability of reasoning than their potential. Often the victims of dumbing down are unaware of the effect.

Television is an example of an aspect of the media that dumbs down its audience.
