Ellen McCormack

Ellen McCormack was the first woman candidate for president who received Secret Service protection and federal matching funds. She ran for the Democratic nomination in 1976 on a pro-life platform. Jimmy Carter, who has also spoke out against abortion[Citation Needed], won the nomination and the presidency that year.

In 1980, Mrs. McCormack ran for president again as the nominee for the Right to Life Party.
