Essay:Lines in a parking lot

Giving up a little freedom is not a bad thing. It is rather a good thing, because it actually expands the scope of what you can do.

  • You can fit more cars into a parking lot if you paint lines on the ground, indicating where people should park.
  • Traffic on the road is safer and can move faster, when lanes are indicated with painted lines (and those little reflector things at night).
  • Putting a fence around a playground, while making it a little harder to get in (you have to use a gate), reduces worry. You don't have to worry about hitting your baseball out of the field and having to go look for it in a scary forest (or back alley).
  • Taking turns in a conversation is better than everyone talking at once.

In marriage, the man and woman give up one thing to get more of another thing.
