The FIM-92 Stinger is an American-made portable infrared-homing surface-to-air missile. It entered service in 1981 and is currently used by 27 countries, several of which produce it under license. It has 270 confirmed aircraft kills.
Officially it requires two to operate—a gunner and a spotter—although a single operator can handle it. It is classified as a MANPADS (man-portable air defense system.)
