Federalist No. 50, authored by James Madison under the pen name Publius, is the fiftieth of 85 essays. Titled "Periodic Appeals to the People Considered", Madison stays on the topic of separation of powers, as well as a discussion of appealing directly to the people for guidance in such matters as changing the constitution.

It was published on February 5, 1788.
