OK, I get that the blue curve is y = ex, but what the heck is the red line? Human 16:21, 6 September 2008 (EDT)

It's a line at a tangent to the blue curve at the little black dot. The gradient of the blue line at the little black dot is the gradient of the red line. --Toffeeman 16:29, 6 September 2008 (EDT)
I know that. But it illustrates nothing very well - having the line at x=0 makes more sense, since it is clearer that the slope is 1 there (e^0). Which is what the caption says. No big deal, just thought the other was better. Although, I don't like the other two curves on the one I suggested (y=4^x and y=2^x). Should we simply add a description of what the red line shows to the caption? (That the slope at x=some random number is e^random number) Human 18:52, 7 September 2008 (EDT)
