(Redirected from Fools gold)
Fool's gold is the common name of the mineral pyrite (iron disulfide, FeS2), which, due to its metallic luster and brass-yellow hue is oftenly mistaken for gold. It can be distinguished from real gold by its crystalline structure and, when handled, sulfuric smell. Occasionally, small quantities of gold can be found in pyrite deposits.
