The Ford Thunderbird was a personal luxury car made by Ford. With the 1955 release of Thunderbird, Ford created the genre of the personal luxury car, forever altering the automotive landscape and winning four "Car of the Year" awards (1958, 1987, 1989, and 2002). Over the course of its production, the Thunderbird underwent several stylistic changes, changing from a drop top to a coupe and back again. It was almost always available with a V8. The Thunderbird was discontinued in 1997, but was revived with a distinct "retro" look in 2002 before production ceased in 2005.
