King George III (George William Frederick; June 4, 1783 – January 29, 1820) was ruler of Great Britain and Ireland from October 25, 1760, until his death. During his reign, Britain's American colonies rebelled and formed the United States of America. His reign also saw Britain's defeat of Napoleon, its participation in the War of 1812, the abolition of the slave trade, and the 1801 Act of Union between Great Britain and Ireland.

George III endured several bouts of madness, during which his eldest son, George, Prince of Wales, served as Prince Regent.
