A goaltender, commonly kown as a goalie, is a position in several sports that is primarily responsible for keeping the other team from scoring. The goaltender is generally thought of in Ice Hockey or Soccer, but is also a position in sports ranging from lacrosse to water polo. Because a goalie generally has objects (ball, puck etc.) shot at him from the opposite team, he usually wears considerably more padding than a "regular" position player.
