Ichthus is a Greek word (ΙΧΘΥΣ) that was used in ancient times to represent Christianity when it was illegal to be a Christian. It is an acronym that stands for "Jesus Christ, Son Of God, Saviour" (Ἰησοῦς Χριστός, Θεοῦ Υἱός, Σωτήρ). Since "ichthus" is the Greek word for fish, the fish became a symbol for Christ, much like the cross, as seen on the popular fish magnets on cars. The Ichthus Festival is a Christian rock music festival that takes its name from the anagram.
