Isao Takahata
From Conservapedia
Isao Takahata (family name: 高畑, given name:勳), born 29 October 1935 (age 74), is an anime director and producer and one of the co-founders of Studio Ghibli, along with long-time colleague Hayao Miyazaki.
Takahata qualified from Tokyo University and joined the animation company Toei Doga in 1959. Here, he met Miyazaki and they worked on several projects together, including "Heidi, Girl of the Alps" and "Anne of Green Gables", before he produced the Miyazaki-directed film "Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind", which led to the creation of Studio Ghibli.[1]
In contrast to Miyazaki's fantasy-themed films, Takahata's work at Ghibli has tended to focus on more serious and reality-based themes. His credits include what must rank as one of the best anime films of all time, Grave of the Fireflies, as well as Only Yesterday and My Neighbours, the Yamadas.
