Jaundice is yellowing of the skin, eyes and mucous membranes.

This condition can be a symptom of hepatitis infection, an increase in the breakdown of red blood cells (such as malaria) or an inability to drain bile from the biliary system, or having too much bilirubin in the bloodstream.

Jaundice is a common disease affecting infants and early diagnosis is needed to cure the disease.

Jaundice symptoms [1] are:

Yellow colouration of the tongue, eyes and skin

There is a pale tinge seen in the urine

     Bitter taste felt in mouth

Itching sensation felt in the skin

The stools would be foul-smelling and also pale

The tongue also turns pale or yellowish and is also referred to as ‘ furry tongue’

     People feel unusually lethargic
