The jelly bean is a bean shaped candy that comes in various flavors. Artificial fruit flavors are most common, but companies such as Jelly Belly make a wide variety of gourmet flavors. A lengthy process is required to create jelly beans. Production of this confection usually takes between seven and twenty-one days.[1]
President Reagan was a well-known jelly bean aficionado. Due to his enjoyment of them (which started when he was trying to give up smoking cigars), Jelly Belly created their blueberry flavor so he could have red, white, and blue jelly beans, symbolizing the colors of the American flag.[2] Jelly Belly also created special jelly bean jars with the presidential seal on them, for his personal use and for gifts which he provided to friends, coworkers and other world leaders.
