Jimmy Edwards, D.F.C. (1920-1988) was an actor and comedian, well-loved for his handlebar moustache (a relic of his service in the Royal Air Force, and grown to disguise scars left from wartime injury), and his keynote roles as Pa Glum in The Glums and as the headmaster in flagellant school comedy Whack-O! This latter role led to his adopting the style 'Professor Jimmy Edwards'.
