John Christian Watson was Australia's third Prime Minister, and although holding office for only three months, was also the first Labor Party Prime Minister. He gained office following the resignation of his predecessor, Alfred Deakin, but with the Labor Party holding a minority in Parliament, had little hope of retaining the office for long.
