Katsushika Hokusai (1760 – 1849) was a Japanese painter and printmaker of the Edo period. The Great Wave and Fuji in Clear Weather gave him international fame (36 views of Mont Fuji).

Behind the Great Wave at Kanagawa (1832) is his most renown work.
