The Kurds are an ethnic group living in the Taurus and Zagros Mountains in Turkey, Iran, and Iraq. They have lived a somewhat nomadic existence for several millennia, and have never had an official homeland. However, they are beginning to incorporate into comparatively more urban environments, as opposed to the tribal lifestyle they have traditionally lived. [1] Many Kurds strongly desire a homeland, and their nationalism has led to them being persecuted, especially where Turkey, which is home to more Kurds than any other nation. The majority of Kurds are Muslims.
