Lyon is a city in south-central France in the Rhône-Alpes Region. After Paris and Marseille, it is the third largest city, however with its suburbs, it is the second largest city. It lies between the two cities, and is only 2 hours from Paris by the TGV.
Lyon is located at the convergence of the Rhône and Saône rivers where the medieval city and beyond that two large hills give panoramic views of the city. Lyon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and tourism is an important industry, along with film, finance and light industries. A large basilica, the Notre-Dame de Fourvière, looks over the city from the western hill and nearby there are Roman amphitheatres which are the largest outside of Italy. Lyon is known to be a capital of French cuisine.
