Maldives

The Maldives is a small archipelago nation located in the Indian Ocean, south of India. Its closest neighbor is Sri Lanka, and its capital is Malé. The nation is officially Islamic, and non-Muslims are not permitted to be citizens. The economy is supported mainly by tourism and fishing.
The country was a British protectorate, but has been independent since 1965.
