The marking knife can be used to mark surfaces. It is generally used by woodworkers, but seldom by carpenters.

The marking knife is a handle attached to a metal rod, with a sharpened end. The sharpened end penetrates the wood, and this can be used to craft shapes from wood. It is also used to mark points on wood - for example marking where to cut. But a common knife can also perform this duty.
