Mary Lou Retton

Mary Lou Retton (born Jan 24, 1968), is an Olympic athlete who won the gold medal in women's gymnastics in the 1984 Olympic Games, which were held in Los Angeles, California. She won a total of 5 medals that year. In addition to the gold medal she was awarded a silver medal for team competition and the vault, and 2 bronze medals in the category of uneven bars and for the floor exercises. Retton scored a perfect "10" in the vault and floor exercises. She was also the first female American gymnast to win the gold medal in the all-around competition, and was inducted into the U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame in 1985.[1][2][3]
