Max von Baden (1867 - 1929) (formally Maximilian, Prince of Baden (German: Maximilian Prinz von Baden) was the last Chancellor of the German Empire (German: Reichskanzler) to be appointed by Kaiser Wilhelm II.

German imperialists and militarists, on the verge of defeat in the summer of 1918, established von Baden's government in order to negotiate with Woodrow Wilson and to gain popular support. The right wing of the Social Democratic Party came to its help.

He followed Reichskanzler Georg Hertling on Oct 3, 1918.

He began negotiations for an armistice with the Americans and secured the dismissal of the Army Chief of Staff, Erich Ludendorff.

He urged Kaiser Wilhelm II to abdicate. When Wilhelm gave no definite answer, Max von Baden announced the abdication of the Kaiser and the Crown Prince on Nov 9, 1918. The same day, Max von Baden resigned in favor of the leader of the SPD, Friedrich Ebert.
