Maya Lin

Maya Lin (born 1959) is an American architect best known for her design of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington D.C. Lin designed the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in 1981, while still an undergraduate. She was born in Athens, Ohio, and was awarded a Master of Architecture degree from Yale University in 1986. Her parents emigrated to the United States from Communist China before Lin was born. In 2009 she received the National Medal of Arts by President Barack Obama.
