McDonnell Douglas was an American defense contractor and aircraft manufacturer. It merged with Boeing in 1997.
History
Originally, McDonnell Aircraft Corporation and the Douglas Aircraft Company were two separate companies.
Douglas Aircraft was founded in 1920 by Donald Douglas. The firm made an immense profit during World War II on defense contracting. Afterward, the firm made such commercial aircraft as the DC-6.
The two firms were merged in 1967.
